I just biked to the 5th station of Mt. Fuji. 5 hours round trip. I am training for 5 races at the moment and one of them is the 2nd Annual Mt. Fuji Hill Climb. It is a bike race from Fujihokuroku Park to the 5th station (halfway point up Mt. Fuji and as far as automobiles or bikes can ascend.) This is my 4th bike trip up. I enjoy punishment. 2:00pm I leave Kotobuki Danchi (my apartment.) 15 degrees outside. Cloudy and grey skys.
2:30 Arrive Pines Park. Which is right behind the official starting point of climbing Mt. Fuji, the Sengen Jinja.

2:45 Fujihokuroku Park
3:30 Break #1 for 10 minutes. Enjoy some trail mix and banana action. The trees are getting shorter, the air is colder, and I can see my breath.
Mochi! One of my favorite Japanese snacks.

4:20 Pass through a closed gate, road gets very steep from this point, thick fog. This road eventually dead ends at the fake 5th station. The road has trees and large lava rocks laying on it.
4:50 Break #2 for 15 minutes. I am in pain. Like my buddie Sterzel would yell, in that NYC restaurant, on a Saturday night when his ticket line was overflowing and many more were coming in...”HURTIN!” I enjoy pain, but now I am beginning to wonder if maybe I shouldn’t have run that half marathon yesterday.

5:30 Old 5th station. There is ice and snow on the ground. At this point, I can see far off into the distance. There are very few trees here. I am above the clouds. The sky is blue and the sun is bursting with energy. It feels good to be alive.
5:40 GOAL!
The 5th Station! Enjoy an icey cold coka cola. It is freezing up here. Hands and feet numb. Snow everywhere. It's just gotta be below freezing?6:00 Head down the Subaru line. I am an addrenaline junkie peaking strongly all the way down. This is better than drugs.
6:55 Home and a nice hot bath.
Why is this badger with the super sack in front of all the best restaurants?
